My July reading update (a bit late!). I'm now at 33 books for the year, and we're in week 32, so I've pulled ahead. Now I just need to keep it up! Amy has several books I'm interested in (Dresden Files, here I come), and the library has a bunch of good stuff, so hopefully I can keep up the pace. I also just got a L. E. Modesitt Jr. book in yesterday's Kindle Daily Deal, so that might open up a big new series for me to devour. :)

Time for my June reading update! Even with a busy schedule, I was able to get through quite a few books this month - yay Kindle and extra yay for an awesome girlfriend who lends me excellent books! :)

On week 27 for the year, I've finished 22 new books and 10 re-reads; not quite on target for a new book every week, but close! I still have the last 3 Harry Potters to work on, and Amy has some other classics which I have not read (The Neverending Story, how have I not read this?), plus I'm going to be getting my library card(s) in Clear Lake this week. I'm really excited!

Time for another reading update! Amy lent me the Hunger Games trilogy, and the first four Harry Potter books - these are both series that I'll be happy to have read. My first-time to re-read ratio is improving, but I still have 3 more Mary Stewart books in the queue to be re-read.

There are quite a few cool books in the Kindly Daily Deal today, but the standout is the first collection of Fritz Leiber's Lankhmar books, Swords and Deviltry. Hooray for Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser!

Damn it. I just learned that Jay Lake succumbed to cancer. Another great author, gone.

Wow, another short story collection from another great author is featured in the Kindle Daily Deal!

Michael Swanwick has written some classics (Iron Dragon's Daughter, Stations of the Tide, Vacuum Flowers) and his collection The Dog Said Bow-Wow is available for $1.99. Nice!

One of my favorite authors is available as a Kindle Daily Deal, hooray!

Jeff VanderMeer's short story collection The Third Bear is available for $1.99 - this is one of the few VanderMeer books I don't own, so it's a no-brainer for me. If you like bizarre fantasy with a literary bent, check it out!

I just finished Solaris, and realized that I hadn't posted anything about my year-to-date reading, so here it is!

There are some books that I'll read over and over again; looks like 2014 was the year of Gibson. I'm about halfway through the second of Jeff Vandermeer's trilogy of Southern Reach novels (Authority), and feel the need to revisit Mary Stewart as well. Not a bad year, so far, but I think I'll fall far short of the 52 books I was hoping to read for the year. Oh well!

Mary Stewart passed away: http://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/may/15/mary-stewart (I was unaware of many of the books that she had written - lots of new reading material for me).

If you're a fan of the Arthurian saga, you should pick up her series on Merlin (start with The Crystal Cave).
